Orange (ORAN.PA) has entered into a multi-year partnership with OpenAI in Europe, granting the French telecoms operator access to pre-release AI models on Wednesday, according to Steve Jarrett, the group’s Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer.

On Tuesday, Orange also announced a collaboration with Meta and OpenAI to support translation efforts for regional African languages. Orange will contribute data samples in Wolof and Pular to train Meta’s Llama and OpenAI’s Whisper language models.
The AI models will be integrated into Orange’s customer support services and shared with non-commercial entities such as governments, universities, and startups.
